Vinyasa Yoga

Vinyasa Flow is a challenging, yet joyful, practice combining breath work and asana (pose) to purify the body of physical and emotional toxins. The class is designed for all levels of practitioners, utilizing strength, flexibility, and balance through a continuous sequence of energizing postures.  This class focuses on core strength, deepening flexibility through a series of balancing, opening, aligning poses, and deep breathing. Become present, find clarity, and learn techniques for relaxation to carry with you anytime.

 

Gentle Vinyasa:      Inner Serenity

Monday 6 - 7:00PM

This class realigns the body through postures and mudras (hand postures) that ground and allow you to flow with tranquility through life’s currents.  Release long held tension and fear with gentle hip openers, lunges, and deep back bends. Open to all levels.

Trauma Sensitive / Informed Yoga

Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TSY) or Trauma Informed Yoga (TIY) is designed to heal you from your more painful experiences whether they are physical or emotional. The slow movements, rhythmic soothing music, deliberate exercises and poses in this class address various unique reactions to trauma present in our neurobiology and energy fields.  The instructor Ivor has 12 years of experience providing and serving Victims of Violent Crimes with the City of Boston Streetworker Program, St. Francis House Homeless Shelter and Impact Model Mugging.

Healflow         (Beginner Friendly)

This class uses Vinyasa Yoga postures and flows as the foundation for a healing focused workout.  Our experienced instructors have built the curriculum to “work its way up and down the body” using carefully selected postures to target the twelve major organs, the lumbar, thoracic, cervical vertebrae, and the complete the kinetic chain (knees/ legs,  back, , spine, neck) to promote natural and healthy function from the inside (organs, connective tissues, and skeletal alignment) out. This class is suitable for participants from beginner to instructor level and can be individually customized to help specific injuries, chronic conditions, or a course of recovery.

 

 

Restorative Yoga (Beginner Friendly)

This class is designed to relieve the stress of school and work, or to help with pain from injury and disease through application of the relaxation response. In low light with soft sounds, students hold poses with the aid of multiple blocks, bolsters, and props to adopt stillness and activate the immune system.  All poses are performed in repose.  The instructor Kerry, a licensed physical therapist, and welcomes all skill levels from beginner to advanced.

Yoga for Athletes

Athletes face unique circumstances and challenges in building and maintaining a healthy, competitive physique and when recovering from injury.  At Taireiki Yoga and Wellness center we celebrate this fact and have designed a Yoga class purpose built with it in mind.  The curriculum of Yoga for Athletes was built from the ground up to strengthen key parts of an athlete’s body, heal specific sport injuries, shorten and supplement recovery time, and create a firm foundation for future injury prevention. Each class is tailored to the athlete’s individual needs by our experienced instructors, so they get more time off the bench and in the game.  Ideal for runners and this program has been implemented with the MIT Track/Cross Country team for four years.

Qi Gong

    Qi (energy) Gong (work) is a traditional Chinese meditative, restorative, and self defense practice that promotes balance, alignment, structural strength, circulation, longevity and mindfulness. It is an essential component of Chinese Martial Arts (Wushu), and Traditional Healing (Zhong Yi) disciplines (which incorporates everything from acupuncture, to herbal medicine, to exercise/nutrition) based on the principles of the twelve meridians, five elements and holistic balance.  Our Instructor and Founder, Ivor Edmonds has built this class around his long time study of martial arts and his Masters degree in Applied Healing Arts from the Maryland University of Integrated Health. Through a progressive and proprietary curriculum developed for the Taireiki Yoga and Wellness Center, dedicated students will learn the general principles of Qi Gong including breathing, energy generation and movement, static and moving postures and directed meditation by practicing the following:  

    Basic set: Nine Exercises

    Advanced set: 23 Exercises

    Daoist Practices: Most famously put forward in the “Tao Te Ching” by Lao Tzu: Daoism is a traditional Chinese philosophy, based on adherence to the “Way” which emphasizes naturalness, action without intention (Wei Wu Wei), humility, frugality and compassion. This component of the class focuses on using the principles of Daoism for the cultivation of the dan tians, meridians, spine circulation, breathing, and meditation.
