This class uses Vinyasa Yoga postures and flows as the foundation for a healing-focused workout. Our Instructor and Founder Ivor Edmonds has built the curriculum to “work its way up and down the body” using carefully selected postures to target the twelve major organs, the lumbar, thoracic, cervical vertebrae, and the complete the kinetic chain (knees/ legs, back, spine and neck) to promote natural and healthy function from the inside (organs, connective tissues, and skeletal alignment) out. This class is suitable for participants from beginner to instructor level and can be individually customized to help specific injuries, chronic conditions, or a course of recovery.
Trauma Informed/Sensitive Yoga
Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TSY) or Trauma Informed Yoga (TIY) is designed to heal you from your more painful experiences, whether they are physical or emotional. The slow movements, rhythmic soothing music, and the deliberate exercises and poses in this class address various unique reactions to trauma present in our neurobiology and energy fields. Our Instructor and Founder Ivor Edmonds has 12 years of experience providing and serving Victims of Violent Crimes with the City of Boston Streetworker Program, St. Francis House Homeless Shelter and Impact Model Mugging.
Qi (energy) Gong (work) is a traditional Chinese meditative, restorative, and self defense practice that promotes balance, alignment, structural strength, circulation, longevity and mindfulness. It is an essential component of Chinese Martial Arts (Wushu), and Traditional Healing (Zhong Yi) disciplines (which incorporates everything from acupuncture, to herbal medicine, to exercise/nutrition) based on the principles of the twelve meridians, five elements and holistic balance. Our Instructor and Founder Ivor Edmonds has built this class around his long time study of martial arts and his Masters degree in Applied Healing Arts from the Maryland University of Integrated Health. Through a progressive and proprietary curriculum developed for the Taireiki Yoga and Wellness Center, dedicated students will learn the general principles of Qi Gong including breathing, energy generation and movement, static and moving postures and directed meditation
Our Mat Pilates class follows a series of exercises from the Pilates Method founded by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900s. By focusing on postural alignment, breathing, core stability, controlled, targeted movement and flexibility, students will challenge their muscles to strengthen and strength from the core out. Students bodies will heal and change rapidly as their alignment and strength improve.
Through Reiki meditation, deep breathing, slow movements, chanting and visualization this class promotes self growth and healing, balances your emotions, and allows for peaceful catharsis in your day to day life. Ideal for medical professionals, social service workers or members of other service professions, the practice can also can be tailored to inspire confidence, release stress and deal with grief on the spot with real time adjustments by our experienced instructor. This class is also suitable for people with mobility challenges or injuries.
